Nancy Reyes Seminars: Hide Placement,
Problem Solving for NW3 & The Nose Work Dance

We are excited to have Nancy Reyes
present on 3 different topics based on your feedback!

Nancy is a Professional Dog Trainer, Business Owner of For Your K9 and Speaker with 30 years’ experience in animal behavior, dog sport coaching and dog training. She is also a NACSW Certifying Official, Nose Work trial host, seminar host, and a Mental Management Certified Instructor. Nancy teaches and presents seminars all over the U.S. and Internationally. She has over 20 students that have completed their Elite titles and Elite Championship titles with some competing in the 2017 NACSW Nationals.

Session Topics

There will be 4 half day sessions where internationally sought after Nancy Reyes will guide teams into deeper understanding in the sport of nose work. Based on the feedback received, there will be three session topics that will be covered in the 4 sessions.

Hide Placement: Hide placement can make or break your nose work training program whether you are just starting out or competing at the Elite level. Air flow can be challenging with relation to nose work. Placing thoughtful hides to work specific skills is important for learning how scent moves and how to read your dog better at all levels of competition. Knowing how the scent moves can optimize your handling to help your dog find hides. How air flow and air pressure are important for nose work will be discussed. Also, discussed will be how humidity, heat and temperature changes affect how scent moves. This is a very interactive workshop that includes hands on work for all levels, teams will be divided into groups of like experience. Participants will be placing hides and running dogs on the hides; so the Monday session may be very different than the Tuesday one. Please Note: The Hide Placement Sessions are open to NW1 through Elite teams, teams will be assigned to a session based on their level, so flexibility in attending either session will be helpful.

Problem Solving for NW3: One of the principle skills dogs need in nose work is problem solving. Whether it’s working pooling/trapping odor, working the wind, thresholds, converging, etc. the dog must be able to solve these problems to get to source. In this workshop you will learn how to recognize problems and how to help your dog solve them. We will address issues that can cause challenges at trials and give you the tools to solve them. Strategies for competing will also be discussed. Please Note: This session is for teams that are competing at the NW3 level.

The Nose Work Dance: This coaching session will be all about you, the handler, and your effects on your canine partner. We will focus on how your body position/pressure affects your dog's nose work performance. Differences in working on or off leash as the search environment allows, how to move to help improve your team work (the dance) in nose work. Participating teams will get coaching on strengths as well as help finessing the finer points. Please Note: This session is for teams that are competing at the NW2 through Elite level.
